SUPPORT S. 3036, the Keep Families Together Act

Call Sen. Rubio and tell him to SUPPORT S. 3036, the Keep Families Together Act

Update (6/18): All 49 Senate Democrats have signed on to cosponsor the Keep Families Together Act while none of the 51 Senate Republicans have committed to the bill.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions declared at a law enforcement conference in Arizona on May 7th that the Department of Justice would seek "100% prosecution" of all who enter the United States illegally and separate parents from children instead of keeping them in a detention center together. "If you are smuggling a child then we will prosecute you, and that child will be separated from you as required by law." Despite the Trump administration's claim that the policy only applies to those attempting to enter the United States illegally, those seeking asylum, and proceeding through the legal process of presenting themselves at the border with their claims, have also seen their families torn apart.

In response to the public backlash, Trump has repeatedly blamed Democrats for the creation of "the law" that forces family separation. However, there is no law. It is a policy solely created and enforced by his own Departments of Justice and Homeland Security. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has introduced S. 3036, the Keep Families Together Act, that would put an end to the practice of separating migrant families at the border, and ironically, only Democratic Senators currently support the bill. If Trump and the rest of his Republican party truly oppose the policy, they will support this bill and work to pass it into law immediately.

I’m calling from [zip code].  I want Senator Rubio to support S. 3036, the Keep Families Together Act, to stop the separation of immigrant families at the U.S. border. This practice is immoral and unnecessarily harms innocent children. It must be stopped by Congress immediately.

Let's call everyday until it passes.

U.S. Senator Merkley was threatened with arrest when he tried to inspect conditions at a Brownsville, TX privately-run child-detention center, which raises serious questions about what they are trying to conceal from Congress and the public. S.2849/H.R.5820, the Detention Oversight, Not Expansion Act (DONE Act) halts expansion of detention facilities in favor less costly and more humane community-based alternatives. It also requires unannounced independent inspections and audits to ensure compliance with federal laws.

Stop Separating IMMIGRANT Families

Call Sen. Rubio and tell him to SUPPORT S. 3036, the Keep Families Together Act

Horrendous stories have emerged that describe children ripped out of their parents arms at the border and disturbing depictions of the living conditions at detention facilities holding these children now labeled "Unaccompanied Minors." Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) described a facility in Texas holding hundreds of young migrants as a "series of cages that look a lot like dog kennels." Border patrol agents have told parents that their children were being taken to get baths, only for the children to never return. A child was even ripped away from a mother while breastfeeding; the mother was subsequently handcuffed for resisting.
